Weddings At Great Fosters

Great Fosters is a fabulous country house venue set within 50 acres of gardens and parkland near Egham, Surrey. The main parts of the building are a classic, traditional hotel with many period features, but it features a contemporary designed glass orangery which provides a light and airy location for your wedding ceremony and a 14th century tithe barn for the wedding breakfast. Both of these rooms can easily handle larger weddings with well over 150 guests. The gardens provide excellent opportunities for fantastic wedding photography include the famous arch bridge, open parkland and the well manicured gardens.

The avenue of trees is a favourite location for group photographs and for some romantic images too!

Wedding Ceremonies at Great Fosters

Most of the weddings we have photographed at Great Fosters have been held in the magnificent Orangery. With one end and one complete side of the room being mostly glass, it is a light and specious area with a long, impressive aisle and seating available for over 150 guests. It is also possible to have outdoor ceremonies at Great Fosters and your guests can be seated in the outdoor sunshine, however to comply with the law you, your witnesses and the registrars must stand inside a structure to make the ceremony legal. The Orangery’s light and airy feel provides part of the look of an outdoor wedding without the downsides and unknowns such as the English weather.

Some of the most memorable wedding photographs we love are often the little moments, expressions and glances throughout the day. Great examples are the nervous groom before the ceremony, the relieved “you’re finally here” look, the smiles and light-hearted giggles during the ceremony and the looks of relief when the formal ceremony is concluded and the celebrations can finally begin.

Group Photographs in the Gardens at Great Fosters

While most of our clients prefer natural, reportage style photography, they also want to have a few group photographs taken of the wedding party, parents, brothers & sisters on both sides, close friends, etc. We are more than happy to do this, in fact we provide you with a template list to start with, which you can customise to get just the photographs you want. We then work in an efficient but friendly and polite style to arrange the groups, with help from ushers and family members to get the official group wedding photographs in around 30-40 minutes.

Great Fosters has many different locations in its grounds which can be used as locations for the photography. The arch bridge is a popular feature for photographs, in particular it can look stunning as the sun goes down for winter weddings (see below). Rather than taking you away from your wedding guests for an hour or more during the afternoon, we can wait until your guests are finding their seats at the reception which allows 10-20 minutes for you to play Lord and Lady of the manor in the grounds while we capture some stunning images for you.

Wedding Reception, Speeches and Dancing at Great Fosters

Most clients want a group photograph of all of the wedding guests, we usually do this just before everyone goes in for the meal. At Great Fosters we can use our two photographers to best effect by having one on a first floor roof looking down on the group, while the other zooms in from a different angle. This always works well and results in great images of people unaware of the second camera pointing at them.

The Tithe Barn at Great Fosters looks stunning when laid out for a wedding breakfast – it’s worth mentioning at this point that the food served at Great Fosters is always excellent. The spacious room allows plenty of room for us as photographers to move around the room unnoticed while the speeches are taking place. . We will always try to capture a great image of each person giving a speech but also get the reaction shots around the room as people enjoy the comments. Bonus points are awarded for the photographs of a groom with his head in his hands during the speeches!

Between the speeches and the first dance there is usually some downtime while the Tithe Barn is set up for the evening entertainment and dancing. The Tithe Barn is an excellent location either for a DJ or a band to entertain you and your guests.

During the room turnaround your guests can gather in the bar, chat together and watch the highlights slide show we have put together using your very best images of the day. There are usually 40-50 amazing images for you and your guests to view on our HD TV screen placed in the bar. It’s a excellent way to relive the key moments of your day in the company of your family and friends.

In summary, Great Fosters is a fantastic venue for your wedding. If you have any questions, would like more details, or you would like to book us to photograph your wedding at Great Fosters, please call 01276 683712 or contact us now
